Mapping Municipal Waste Infrastructure Across Lahore
GSPEA was engaged to design and implement a GIS-based smart waste management system for Lahore Waste Management Company. The objective was to bring spatial visibility and operational efficiency to waste collection services spanning eight towns across the city.
The project began with a comprehensive field survey and mapping exercise to geolocate every waste container across the coverage area, creating an accurate digital inventory of collection points for the first time.
Using this spatial dataset, GSPEA's team developed an interactive Web GIS platform that visualizes container locations, collection zones, and route networks — giving LWMC a single, real-time operational picture of its waste management infrastructure.

Optimized Collection Routes and Improved Operational Efficiency
The completed system enabled LWMC to move from manual, experience-based route planning to a data-driven model. By analyzing container locations against road networks and collection schedules, GSPEA helped design optimized collection routes that reduced travel distance and improved service consistency across all eight towns.
A Digital Foundation for Municipal Planning
Beyond day-to-day operations, the Web GIS platform now serves as a planning tool for LWMC — supporting future infrastructure decisions, service expansion, and performance monitoring. The project demonstrates how geospatial technology can directly improve the efficiency and accountability of municipal services.
